Deacon
John Fothergill is a married permanent deacon who has lived in the parish since
1991, when he moved to Northleach on retiring from British Airways, having worked as
a Flight Simulator engineer for thirty years. He was ordained in Holy Redeemer
Church in Slough in 1987, having trained for the diaconate in the Northampton
diocese. Married in 1952, he and his wife Doreen have three sons and six
grandchildren. John served in the Royal Navy as an electrical engineer for fifteen
years before leaving to join BEA (later British Airways), and he has only recently
given up sailing as a hobby, one which for many years he shared with his wife.
